Certified by the MCA to provide onboard STCW training

Onboard medical training in your working environment, utilising your equipment with realistic scenarios customised to the vessel's cruising profile

MedAire provides a range of training, from SCTW’10 to refresher courses, for all skill levels.

Medical training takes place onboard, by skilled instructors who are specialised in providing medical care within remote environments.

Our training is flexible and works around the needs of your vessel. We have even completed courses during Atlantic crossings, for maximum time effiencies!

We suggest that crewmembers undergo training at least once a year to maintain their knowledge.

Courses include:

  • STCW'10 courses (2,3 and 5 day courses)
  • Refresher courses (In-person and virtual)
  • Paediatric first aid
  • Trauma response training (MARCH)
  • Treating injury and illness in elderly patients
  • Mental health training (virtual)

STCW'10 Training

There are 3 different courses available, as set by the STCW and keeping qualifications up to date will form part of the requirements for positions onboard. A maximum of 12 crew members can participate in MedAire STCW training onboard.

Crewmembers have the option to attend the entire five-day course if they wish to broaden their medical expertise. The certification obtained will depend on the prerequisite having been met. These courses are:

Elementary First Aid (EFA): Two days onboard

Required by all crewmembers onboard and covers all the essential first aid basics: CPR, wound management, Oxygen administration, using an AED

Proficiency In Medical First Aid (PMFA): Three days onboard + 1 day eLearning

Builds upon knowledge learnt in EFA and includes: management of chest pain, effects of hot and cold environments and musculoskeletal injuries.

Pre-Requisite: EFA Certification

Proficiency in Medical Care Onboard (PMCOB): five days

The highest level of medical certification which looks not only how to handle a medical situation but how to sustain life onboard.

Pre-Requisite: PMFA or PMCOB Certification
