Ensure the safety and wellbeing of your crew
As the yachting season in the northern hemisphere approaches, ensuring your superyacht is fully prepared is crucial for the health, safety and well-being of everyone onboard.
Our pre-season checklist provides you with a comprehensive guide to ensure you are well-prepared in advance and receive seamless support and assistance when required. Following the steps below will ensure that your vessel and crew are equipped for a smooth and safe season ahead.
Medical Kits & Equipment
- Review Medical Supplies: Check expiration dates and ensure you have all the necessary medications onboard - if required, request a replenishment from MedAire. Correctly store any newly received medications and receipt the order in MediTrack, this will ensure that our medical team can view your inventory.
- Crew Medications: Stock up on any additional medications for your crew via the MedAire eShop. Consider the profiles of your guests, especially if you will be chartering or have older guests or children on board. MedAire can also provide recommendations tailored to your needs.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all medical equipment is in good working order. This includes checking pads and batteries for defibrillators and reviewing your onboard oxygen kit.
Crew Medical Training
- Standard Operating Procedures: Include information about your MedAire membership within your standard operating procedures. Inform and remind crew members about the services available through MedAire and how to engage them.
- Annual Medical Training: Arrange for annual medical training if it hasn't been conducted yet. This ensures your crew can effectively handle medical situations.
Voyage preparation
- Maritime Risk Map: View health and security risks about any global location and export this information to pdf to brief your crew and guests. Make sure to sign up to receive emails, alerting you about any changes or risks within your destination.
- Bespoke support: If you require more detail than is available in the portal, you can request various additional reports through our partners at Risk Intelligence, including Voyage Risk Assessments and Security Risk Assessments. Find out more here or contact your Account Manager to discover options, as well as our other consultancy services.
Membership and Assistance
- MedLink Subscription: Verify that your MedAire membership (MedLink) is active and renew if necessary. Complete your Operations and Billings Procedures form to ensure no delays in accessing swift and effective assistance.
- Mental Health Support: The summer season can be challenging for mental wellbeing, whether it's due to demanding guests, lack of sleep, or personal issues. Consider adding emotional support to your MedAire subscription, to provide crewmembers with access to structured counselling, which can help them to develop coping mechanisms within times struggle.
- Client Portal: Ensure crewmembers save the digital membership card to your phone's wallet (Access this under the ‘What to expect when calling MedLink’ section of the client portal). If there are any health risks at your destination, spread awareness by downloading health posters or request more information from MedAire.
- Scenario Drills: Make a test call (anytime) or schedule a scenario drill (at least one week in advance) with MedLink to ensure your crew is prepared for any medical emergencies.
