MANAGED COVID-19 TESTING FROM MEDAIRE:
STANDING ADVICE FOR OPERATIONS
Crewmembers on board
For anybody showing symptoms they should be isolated (preferably off the vessel), and you should call MedAire for advice on testing , treatment, as well as recommendations when it is ok to allow the crew member to return to the vessel.
Anybody who has come into close contact with an individual with symptoms, or diagnosed COVID, should be quarantined (preferably off the vessel) for 14 days.
Change and wash your uniform once a day.
Have plenty of liquids available for drinking, preferably in individual containers. Cups and utensils should be immediately washed and placed in the sterilizer by individuals using them to avoid second handling.
Crewmembers on board your Yacht
At the beginning of the week, complete self-evaluation questionnaire.
Crewmembers should practice social distancing in the common areas, where possible. Crew should keep a distance of 1.5m (5 feet) between others when socialising and/or eating. We appreciate this can impact break and lunch rotations.
The heads should be thoroughly cleaned every 3 hours and personal hand sanitizer should be carried at all times. Please note when turning on/off taps that this is a source of recontamination, so please use a paper towel or sanitize hands immediately afterwards.
The table area used for eating/drinking should be immediately cleaned by the individual upon vacating.
Contractors & Visitors
Any contractors or visitors coming on-board should fill out a health check form ahead of time. If they show any signs or have been to an infected area, they should be denied boarding.
Any visitors/contractors coming on board should wear a surgical mask as a precaution to your crew, as this would capture droplets from the visitor’s breath and reduce potential spread of disease. They should be instructed how to properly use the face mask (ie. to not remove the face mask until off the vessel).
On your yacht, all flat areas, door knobs, and other frequently touched surfaces should be cleaned several times a day and the interior crew should wear gloves, eye shield and mask for higher-risk areas, like day heads. Having only one crewmember cleaning the day heads also reduces the risk of spreading disease.
Deliveries
Ideally arrange to have all drop-offs and pick-ups of materials off of the vessel at a designated area. It is unknown how long the virus can survive on inanimate surfaces – it could be hours or even days.
Although transmission is believed to occur mainly through person-to-person respiratory droplets, you may want to wipe down the external packaging with sanitizer before bringing materials on board the vessel.
Fresh foods can be treated the same way, with drop-offs arranged. Once fresh food is on-board, wash thoroughly (as appropriate).
MedAire's goal is to help travellers be prepared, capable and confident during medical and safety incidents. Stay informed of all the latest news with MedAire. Questions about anything in this newsletter? For more information and to reduce your exposure to travel risks, please contact MedAire.
