The latest edition of the Ship Captain’s Medical Guide (SCMG) has just been released.
As maritime clients know, the SCMG is a comprehensive manual designed primarily for use on vessels where there is no medical professional onboard.
The guide provides essential direction for crew members to assess and treat trauma and medical illnesses.
A few changes from previous editions include:
Updated guidelines for handling spinal injuries, detailing direction of use for a scoop stretcher. If you are thinking about purchasing a scoop stretcher, you should consider the following:
Connection Points: Pay special attention to the connection points where the two halves of the stretcher hook together, as these areas are prone to corrosion. Also, check where the scoop slides into the body for sizing.
Anti-Corrosion Care: When applying anti-corrosion spray, avoid using grease, as sand can get into the locking parts and jam them. Additionally, dissimilar metal electrolysis can occur when used around water. Thoroughly wash and dry the scoop before applying lubricant and storing it.
Vessels should always have the latest version of the guide available. Our maritime clients (Luxury Yachts and Commercial Maritime) can purchase the guide through us. Contact us here or speak to your Account Manager to find out more.
