MEDAIRE'S AVIATION SECURITY ALERTS EVOLVE

Blog Image

In the wake of the tragic events of 9/11, MedAire recognised the growing need for robust and actionable aviation security solutions. This led to the development of our first aviation security product, designed to provide timely advice and assistance to aviation professionals. Over the years, our commitment to aviation security has remained steadfast, driving continuous innovation and enhancement of our services.

THE JOURNEY OF EVOLUTION

2001: Aviation Security MedAire developed the Aviation Security product to ensure that aviation professionals could respond swiftly and effectively to emerging threats. This pioneering solution laid the groundwork for our future advancements in aviation security.

2008: The Member Portal Provides on-demand access to vital aviation security information. This portal empowered our clients with real-time data, enhancing their ability to make informed decisions and maintain safety and security during their missions.

2016: Aviation Alert Emails We introduced aviation email alerts, delivering timely and relevant security updates directly to our clients' inboxes. This advancement ensured that crucial information was readily available, enhancing situational awareness and response capabilities.

ANNOUNCING ENHANCED AVIATION SECURITY ALERTS

  • Greater Resolution and Detail: The new alerts feature embedded maps and pictures, offering a clearer understanding of incidents. Enhanced iconography includes smaller, more detailed icons, with discrete icons representing Travel Security, Medical, Aviation Security (AVSEC), and Breaking alerts. Icons are animated for alerts issued within the past 24 hours, ensuring that critical information stands out.

  • Significantly Improved Geolocation Capabilities: The enhanced geolocation capabilities deliver alerts by Flight Information Region (FIR) and specific airports, providing precise location data. Multiple geolocated icons per alert offer greater accuracy, specifying exact coordinates and radius markers. Alerts can also span multiple countries, offering broader situational awareness.

  • Breaking Alerts: One of the most significant enhancements is the introduction of "Breaking Alerts." These alerts are issued via e-mail when a new reportable event is discovered but not confirmed. Initially marked as "Investigating," these alerts concisely summarise the possible event without immediate advice or analysis. They are followed by either a "Standing Down" or "Confirmed" notification. Confirmed alerts will typically be followed by a long-form alert with detailed analysis and recommendations.

HOW TO INTERPRET THE UPDATES

Understanding these updates is intuitive:

  • Icons and Animations Smaller, more detailed icons help quickly identify the nature of the alert. Animated icons pulse to indicate alerts less than 24 hours old, highlighting recent developments.

  • Embedded Maps and Pictures: These visual tools offer a clearer understanding of incident locations and contexts, helping assess threats with greater precision.

  • Geolocation Capabilities: FIR and specific airports alert about threats related to specific geographies and locations. Multiple geolocated icons indicate various affected zones, aiding in situational awareness.

  • Alert Categories and Notifications: The transition from "Investigating" to "Standing Down" or "Confirmed" provides a clear response workflow. Confirmed alerts in long-form will include detailed analysis and actionable recommendations.

The latest enhancements to MedAire's Aviation Security Alerts mark a significant leap forward in providing unparalleled support to aviation professionals. By integrating more precise data, visualisations, and timely notifications, we empower our clients to navigate the complexities of global travel with confidence.

"Our goal was to create a system that informs and empowers," says Director of Security, Aviation and Maritime, John Cauthen. "With these enhancements, we're delivering faster, more accurate information, enabling better decision-making in near real-time."
